This book discusses demographic changes and regional development in Indonesia. The first part consists of chapters discussing the demographic dividend period, characterized by a decrease in the Indonesian dependency ratio, thus posing less of a challenge to both the Indonesian economy and regional development. Chapters in the second part of the book focus on migration, urbanization, and inter-connectivity, as the movement of people is an important issue governing regional demographic and labour market balances. Chapters related to education and health issues as the driver of human capital investment make up the third part of this book. Finally, the last part discusses classical regional inequality issues that will remain a challenge for Indonesia for several decades to come.

This book aims to highlight several less commonly covered issues on regional development in Indonesia, not extensively addressed in recent books and public debates as of early 2015. The intention is to draw attention from the current government, the Jokowi Administration. The first part of the book focuses on issues related to regional development and decentralization, while the second part addresses human development.

This book compiles narratives illustrating how Indonesian society, including governments at all levels, regions, cities, and communities, address development challenges such as imbalanced regional development and household income inequalities. From this book, we gain insight into how all elements of Indonesian society are united in a common goal: sustaining rising prosperity and ensuring no one is left behind. The book is divided into three parts: Part I sets the scene by providing information on the current progress of Indonesian society towards achieving its shared development goals. Part II compiles national, regional, and local efforts aimed at strategizing to achieve these goals. Part III showcases initiatives from various regions, cities, and communities across the country.”
