We are pleased to announce the IRSA Pre-Conference Workshop on Indonesian Family Life Survey-5. The Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) is a longitudinal survey focusing on family life in Indonesia. The sample is representative of about 83% of the Indonesian population and contains over
30,000 individuals living in 13 provinces in the country. The fifth (latest) wave of the IFLS (IFLS-5) was updated on April 2016 by SurveyMETER. The main objective of this workshop is to offer an instruction in the use and interpretation of the latest wave of IFLS (IFLS-5).

About the Workshop Instructor:
Dr. Firman Witoelar holds a Master of Economics from Brown University in 1998 and a PhD in Economics at Michigan State University in 2004. Dr. Witoelar is an economist and Director for Research at SurveyMETER with the main focus of research on topics of micro-economic development (microeconomics of
development) including health behaviors, education and employment, in addition to the topics of the household survey method. He was the Co-Principal Investigator for the IFLS4 and IFLS5. Before joining SurveyMETER, he had become the Rockefeller Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Economic Growth Center,
Yale University (2004-2006), and a research economist at the World Bank, Washington DC (2009-2013).

SOCIAL Programme

A tour and travel agency will be available on the conference site and offers a tour for the conference's participants to enjoy the tourism sites around Malang. 

1. Bromo Mountain 

 

Bromo mountain is well-known for its sunrise scenery and the surrounding savanna. The trip to Bromo will be started on the night of July 26th, and we will arrive back at Malang on July 27th noon. The tour registration can be made on the conference site.

 

2. Batu

Batu town is a major agricultural centre very close to Malang, famous for apple orchards. Batu grow rapidly as tourists’ destination with more amusement park and outdoor activities, including Transportation Museum, Jawa Timur Park and Zoo, and Batu Night Spectacular. The trip to Batu is conducted on July 26th evening and/or July 27th morning. The tour registration can also be made on the conference site.

Presenters' Instructions

PARALLEL SESSIONS

PRESENTATION TECHNOLOGY

Computer (MS Windows environment), infocus/projector and also pointer will be available in each room for presentations. Please use either PowerPoint (.ppt or .pptx) or Portable Document Format (.pdf) for presentations. Presenters are requested to bring their presentation on a USB disk. Connecting personal laptops is discouraged to avoid excessive loss of time. There will be also a parallel room assistant that will help you during your sessions.

DURATION

Each parallel session for paper presentations will present 4 papers in total 2 hours. For each paper there will be 30 minutes max (15-20 minutes of presentation, 10-15 minutes for questions and answer from the floor).

CHAIRS

Chairs are expected to come to the room 10 minutes prior to the start of the session. His/her role is to introduce the sessions and the presenters; to guide the discussion; and to make sure that the time is divided equally over the papers to be presented and discusses. Although some exceptions may occur, the chair will be usually the same person as the presenter of the last paper in the session. In case the scheduled chair does not attend, the general rule is that presenter of the session's actual last paper is expected to take the role of chair.

POSTER SESSION

Posters' presenters are expected to stay nearby their posters during the poster sessions in order to answer the questions from the conference participants may have. Poster will be display during the conference in the conference area.
