The contributors of this book are all researchers that can analyse clearly the dynamic of all the initiatives. Their judgement on its success or failures including the lessons learned are based on scientific and rigorous analysis. This book is divided into three parts. Part I sets the scene by providing information on the current status of how Indonesian society has progressed in achieving its shared development goals. Part II contains a compilation of our national, regional, and local efforts made to build strategies to achieve those goals. Part III is a showcase of initiatives from regions, cities, and communities across the countries.

The general theme of this 11th IRSA Book is “Regional Development, Natural Resources and Public Goods in Indonesia during the Global Financial Crisis”. The main goal in choosing this general topic is to examine the dynamics of regional development, exploitation of natural resources and attitudes toward public goods in Indonesia during and after the 2008/2009 global financial crisis. The book is divided into 5 parts: Global Financial Crisis, Regional Development, Poverty, Natural Resources and Public Goods

About 100 papers have been presented and discussed at the 3rd IRSA International Institute. Finally only 14 papers are presented to be part of this book. This book is organized into four parts. Part I discuses the regional development in the era of decentralization. Part II reviews the disparities and poverty issues of regional development. Part III explains the challenges for improvement and expansion of public services from financial point of view. Part IV explores the environmental, human resources and governance issues in regional development.

The book consists of 14 chapters on recent development of various issues in Indonesia. The book is divided into 4 Parts. Part I concerns on issues related to regional economic disparities. Part II is on agriculture and environment. Part III discusses financial sector development in the country. Finally, Part IV presents status of living conditions of the people in Indonesia.”
